Updates + Patreon Launch

Posted by introspurt - August 30th, 2019

Hello all.

Working on chapter 2 diligently, though its a bit difficult as I only get 1-2 hours a night for it. Still, it's coming along well and should be done in the next 1-2 weeks.

Originally, I wanted to stick chapter 2 into chapter 1 and do so for subsequent chapters as well, but the problem is the filesize goes so high that it crashes my software (I'm using Flash CS6). I'm not yet willing to shell out the money for the Adobe Creative Cloud, since now it's a recurring payment model.

So for now, the chapters will be stand-alone story segments. It's probably better that way since I haven't figured out a way to save the game.

Anyway, in other news, and on the urging of quite a few people, I made a Patreon.

It's just a tip jar, but if you like my stuff, I'd be ecstatic if you gave.

You'll also be able to get a sneak peek of some of the art for the next chapter of CK.

Who knows? Maybe someday I can quit my day job and do this full time.

I know that's probably a pipe dream, but I'm allowed to have those, right?

Lol, I was expecting to find a multi-thousand-dollar patreon page when I visited your profile, but it seems like you've just created one and think it's a pipe dream to one day be doing this full-time. I'm telling you, you're gonna get those bucks faster than Soriel thrusts into a fire imp.

That's kind of you to say. I've always been pessimistic about it, since I've never had any formal training and I've just picked things up as a hobby of mine. But maybe one day, who knows?

P.S.: Add that Patreon link on the main menu of your game! AFAIK you can update existing games on Newgrounds.

Yeah, I'll put one in the update I'm working on today.

Any chance of a windows download version?

like a downloadable .swf?

@MartinX @introspurt Speaking of updates, would it be possible to include the text that appears during in-game CGs in the gallery as well?

Sure. I'll put in a toggle button too.

Is there a way to do saving similar to Third Crisis where you let the user download a text file and then import the file manually to load?

Interesting. I'll look into this.

I can't waitttt omg I'm so excited

@temp1011 @introspurt Yeah, or a .exe version.

I'll have to look into that.

@SinginKid1223 @introspurt What are you using to create this game? Not necessarily what you are using for sprite creation, but for the game dev and base coding. Have very base amount of experience but my senior design project before graduation I did a lot of research and work with the unity engine for work with Oculus. Techniques with the animation and mechanics look very similar to those found in starter Unity games. If you are using Unity, then your save problem should be relatively easy to fix with PlayerPrefs and Serialization(<- especially this one) and some checks as to where the file is in the game state, hell you could probably do with with a massive integer case statement(but very ugly). Its really easy when you know you dont have to worry about networking juggled into the game. If you are using Unity the downloadable .exe should also be an easy fix as Unity creates one every time you build the project. Hope this helps with possible problems and future dev :)

Thanks for the explanation. I'm actually building this game in Adobe Flash CS6. I've tried Unity, but honestly I'm much more comfortable with Flash as there's an immediate ability to edit sprites and create animations. But I have been fooling around with different methods to save one's progress and it is starting to come together.

Have more confidence in your work. Your art style is beautiful and is a lot better than a lot of high ranking NSFW games currently on newgrounds (my opinion of course). I honestly cant really afford monthly subscriptions for stuff like this but if this ever becomes a completed game, count me in on buying a copy of it. For the time being, I'll be waiting for every installment of your game. I understand this is currently a hobby, but Id tell ya to maybe set up some goals or tiers for your patreon. Once people see a certain goal, they'll be more likely to donate and you might be closer to that pipe dream of yours.

Best of Luck,
A fan

@SinginKid1223 @introspurt I would also agree with Valefaar, you easily have enough skill to be able to do this full-time if you wanted. Working on patreon tiers would help, offer something like in-game thank you pages or updates to specific tiers. In indie games its honestly about 70-10-10 between art, back-end, and other. You obviously have art done and your game mechanics are way better than most games onsite. Also don't be afraid to question fans for troubleshooting as many may have had similar problems at one point or another, becoming familiar with git may be able to help with things like this as you can approve any changes made by contributors before they ever hit the game. Or just a forum where people can help with issues. You'll easily get as much as you give with this game

still waiting

Check the art section for latest updates - I'm adding a lot of extra content so it's taken a bit longer.
